Serge Gainsbourg's Novel :Yevgenii Sokolov / Evguenie Sokolov: A Parabolic Tale

£14.50£32.50

For French people “of a certain age” this was their version of a Derek & Clive LP. It never failed to bring a smile  when people saw it on the shelf. I sold a surprising amount of French Language edition in the shop.

First published in France in 1980 by Éditions Gallimard, the English Language translation by John & Doreen Weightman was published by Virgin Book in the UK in the same year of issue.

Serge’s only novel, a story of a struggling artist. Struggling with his art and his gaseous bowels. When he finds a method of combining the two, his life is transformed …until he, quite literally, runs out of gas…. “Laugh?” In the words Derek (Dudley Moore) , “I nearly sh*t me-self”.
