Legalise Pot "Times Advertisement" poster -SOMA Steve Abrams relating to The Rolling Stones 1967 Drugs Bust & Hoppy's jailing.

£350.00

This is the poster version of the full page advert placed by Brian Epstein ( &/ or Peter Brown)  and paid for by the Beatles in response to Hoppy’s & the Rolling Stones drug busts in 1967. Gallerist Robert Fraser, a friend to both the Beatles & Stones, was also arrested along with the Stones, he was the only person actually given jail time.

McInnerney’s 1967 Legalise Pot Poster : shown for illustrative purposes only

Steve Abrams’ SOMA (The Society of Mental Awareness) started the petition for the Times advertisement in June 1967 and poster designer Mike McInnerney was commissioned as graphic designer. Obviously, he ditched  his usual psychedelic colour palette,  for a more sobering newspaper monotone.  In July Abrams organised the Legalize Pot Rally at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park.  Mike McInnerney did however produce a psychedelic silk screen and Martin Sharp also designed two posters in relation to the event, one of which was printed on foil and became Big O Poster #1, the other design also featuring in OZ magazine.

This poster was sold at Indica Bookshop and elsewhere.  This copy came from Abrams’ own collection.

Condition : As seen, folded, stained but 100% original from the man himself. ~Priced according to condition
