£750.00

Yoko Ono Mend Piece for John, included in S.M.S # 5

S.M.S (Shit Must Stop) was an arts periodical -of sorts- curated/compiled by William Copley, Published by The Letter Edged in Black Press inc, New York 1968.

Six boxes/portfolios were produced between February and December 1968. Each consisted of a 7 x11 inch cardboard folder containing various art multiple  contributions by a range of Dada, Fluxus  & Pop artists including Marcel Duchamp, Robert Rauschenberg, Man Ray, Christo, Roy Lichtenstein, Merit Oppenheim, John Cage, Richard Artschwager, Walter De Maria, Ray Johnson, Richard Hamilton, Dieter Rot, Yoko Ono, and many others…

#5 seems of to be the most expensive of the 6, due to the contents : a complete copy  sold recently for over $3500+.

This version of Mend Piece (a much earlier concept piece) is dedicated to John Lennon. It consists of : A white box, plastic bag (in which to place smashed cup pieces), a tube of glue, An orange rippon (taped to the glue tube), a poem (wrapped around the glue tube)  & instructions. Overall Ex/ VG+

in 2015 Yoko  revisited the concept as Mended Cups,  a set of 7 commercially produced espresso coffee cups for Illy.
