Martin Sharp Cannabis for Steve Abrams' 6th July 1967 Legalise Pot Rally in Hyde Park

Following the arrest of leading underground figure John ‘Hoppy’ Hopkins for possession of cannabis, Steve Abrams (& others) organised a ‘Legalise Pot Rally’ in London’s Hyde Park in July 1967.

Martin Sharp produced  posters for both the 1967.  John Hurford produced the 1968 poster also used as the cover for OZ Magazine #13.

 

News of the World declared, ” This dangerous man (Abrams) MUST be Stopped!- He’s found a legal way to make drugs “

I’m aware of a few variations  of this poster. The main two are both printed on foil :with/ without the address at the bottom.The production of this poster led to Peter Ledeboer setting up Big O posters. Supposedly the posters without the address were printed for  fly posting around London, and the batches with ‘BO1  Cannabis by Martin Sharp Published by Big O Posters Ltd 219 Eversleigh Road’ at the bottom were for retail at head shop or mail order.
