Here’s an rare and unusual piece of ephemera, not only for Bolan but more importantly Bowie. Although I’ve had Marquee Club fliers with his name listed, this has got to be amongst the earliest,
if not the first programme to feature his name in print and not only that a full page photo. As far as I was aware the programme from Tyrannosaurus Rex 7 day tour in 1969 for the LP For The Lion & The Unicorn …..was the first known piece of ephemera to feature Bowie’s name, albeit only on the cover. For that show he was known to have performed, at Bolan’s suggestion, a one man mime against China’s invasion of Tibet. I had one customer who witnessed it, ‘terrible’ was his verdict.
Anyway, Bowie is not only listed on the inside the programme but there’s also a full page photo of him as white face mime. This was transitional period for him, post Lindsay Kemp, pre Space Oddity.
Also contains 4 pages of Bolan’s lyrics and a double page spread for Tyrannosaurus Rex with an advert for Deborah 45rpm and forth coming LP My People Were Fair....
Condition : 16 printed pages, stapled. Minor handling, thumb creases only , not rip or tears. A couple of minor marks on back page but overall excellent.
