13th Floor Elevators A Visual History - 2020

£40.00£55.00

Another labour . . . .

The Elevators biography Eye Mind was published 13 years ago and took nearly 8 years to research and be published. With so much rare material come to light, next came  the box set in 2009, which collected together all the band’s erroneous recordings with unreleased  material. Although the accompanying hardback book contained as many unseen photos and ephemera as possible,  there was still a lot more. So, finally here is the final part of the trilogy, another four+ years work.

While not as envisioned, Anthology Editions have produced a sanitised version, certainly the most commercially accessible book on the band. It’s a good read with lots of pictures. For the diehard fan there’s still plenty of previously unseen photos and rare ephemera and unique documents. The text is an edited oral history, the band’s account of their convoluted story. It contains many recent interviews and provides many new insights.

Forewords by Lenny Kaye and Jon Savage.  And a note on all the editors listed on the title page ! I edited the text from my interviews (1999-2019), Jon Savage started editing, Kugelberg took over with a marker pen and  I had to fight to restore the damage !   Click on the link below  for feature in Rolling Stones magazine…. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/13th-floor-elevators-visual-history-book-975780/

The copies available here are the only signed by the author.

Available with/without a 2017 promo pamphlet for the book only available at the publishers Marfa Myths Festival. There was an exhibition of material from the the book and Roky Erickson performed during the festival. Photos of the pamphlet in the gallery.
