Description
One of Martin Sharp’s most famous images from his time in psychedelic London.
Sharp made a large scale painting based on Linda Eastman’s ( later McCartney) photograph of Hendrix live on stage, that was commonly produced as a poster at the time.He then made a water colour version for OZ #15, The Electric Circus, which evolved into the poster …
For the full history I’d recommend this excellent blog paper rather than regurgitate someone else’s research here. https://sharphendrix.blogspot.co.uk/
There are several different poster editions in existence. By far the most desirable and expensive is the 1969 OZ silk screened promo poster ….followed by the Big O Poster company’s printing This edition was printed in 1971, shortly after Hendrix’s death in September 1970. This bares both a UK & USA address. Then came the numerous bootleg editions……Big O then produced a small version to coincide with Mick Farren’s book Get On Down A Decade of Rock ‘n’ Roll Posters in 1976.
