For a run of the first 10 issues click here : The Beatles Monthly Book (magazine) #1 to 10 inclusive (lot)

The original run began in August 1963  and ceased in December 1969. The 77 issues &  3 specials provide a unique, contemporary account of the band. The mid period (post Help! to  Magical Mystery Tour)  prove the most interesting -now. Given that we take everything the Beatles did for granted, reading the fan response, as their beloved mop-tops evolved is fascinating- primary source material for academics :).  The final issues bare witness to the  band’s demise AND look like it ! Not only did the size of the print run decline (making them rarer) but so did the printing quality which is sharper & brighter on the reprints ! The publication returned in May 1976 as The Beatles  Book – Appreciation Society Magazine Reprints came housed in 8 pages- later 16, of recent news etc….Reprints were also available inside early issues of Record Collector. If you’re building collection be careful not to buy a reprint with the cover torn off. There are subtle ways of telling them apart but given the reprints are only few years after the original , they’ve both aged in the same way. So obviously there’s doubt when near perfect ” to good to be true”  copies turn up. Luckily there are subtle differences where the printing plates had to be reset that give away reprints….such as minor repositioning of the issue number, cropping of images etc.  Also Newsagents often wrote names  or addresses on the covers -making clean early issue harder to find.  After reprinting  all 77 issues,  in October #78 appeared containing all new content and continued until January 2003 (#321).
