Valex, based in Blackpool, produced programmes, postcards and other merchandise of popular entertainers of the day. Their programmes, were the often generic semi-official ones sold outside the venue, utilising licensed photos but little to do with the actual package tour-but brilliant for getting autographed.
#189 features The Beatles and was issued as both a postcard and larger 10×8 inch B&W card. The photo is an early 1963 publicity shot, where they Beatles are ‘caked’ in theatrical ‘slap’ before going on stage.
Anyway, this card is signed on the reverse by Lennon, Harrison & Starr (No McCartney). The signatures were gained in person by the Graff sisters and was acquired in the early 1980s by POPT. Some of the autographs that were bought (or offered) in that period weren’t genuine (including a full set of 4 that turned out to be all in the hand of George Harrison).
This set of autographs were acquired by POPT in the early 1980’s. They have been, shown to various Beatles dealers over the decades and judging by the offers made, there’s is absolutely no issue with them being genuine. An accompanying letter of guarantee issued with the set.
This set comes with another (unsigned) original 1963 Valex card-so the signed card can be framed with it.
