The first shop was opened by Ian Fisk, John Paul (and joined later by Robert Orbach) in 1965 at 293 at the top of the Portobello Road market. More outlets followed on Wardour street, then off Carnaby St on Foubert’s Place with two more actually on Carnaby Street itself and later Piccadilly Circus and The King’s Road. Moving away from it’s original ex-military stock , the chain churned out Swinging London merchandise, ashtrays, aprons, poster, tea tins etc….
This was the shop where, shortly after arriving in London, Hendrix bought his cobbler, including his famous Hussar’s jacket….
