I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet - Plate

£125.00

An unusual piece of Swinging sixties memorabilia  -Circa 1967-68. – 22.5 cm-approx 9″ dimeter plate from the famous  Swinging Sixties shop.

The first shop was opened by Ian Fisk, John Paul (and joined later by Robert Orbach) in 1965 at 293 at the top of the Portobello Road market. More outlets followed on Wardour street, then off Carnaby St on Foubert’s Place with two more actually on Carnaby Street itself and later Piccadilly Circus and The King’s Road. Moving away from it’s original ex-military stock , the chain churned out Swinging London merchandise, ashtrays, aprons, poster, tea tins etc….

The plate notes all the locations of the  Lord Kitcheners shops in London on one side and on the other names check the Beatles,  Hendrix ( who bought his famous Fusilier’s jacket there) The Stones, Mary Quant and Twiggy (depicted) …plus George Brown ( P.M Harold Wilson’s drunk deputy?) and illustrations of the Tower of London and crown jewels. Made for Lord Kitcheners by Staffordshire Fine Pottery.

Condition : Fine : No chips or cracks. Colours unfaded.
